Poetry in Stitches

”A scene on a chinese door, a christening bonnet from the 1700s, a baroque wallpaper, tiles in a Mooris building, flowers in the castle’s garden, bodice from a folk costume, a china bowl from Istanbul, or an old woven textile from Sweden.

With pencil and colours it becomes poetry in stitches, and new beautiful garments.

Inspiration, sketching, programming, shaping, photography and production. The road is long and the garment goes through many hands before being finished and ready to be presented to the world.”

This is Solveig Hisdal’s own words about the process from inspiration to finished garment. We are lucky to have such a skilled designer at the helm of our company.

Quality Control

At Oleana we pride ourselves on the high quality of our garments and the clever hands and eyes of our quality department ensure this. All the garments go through many production processes where skilled people carry out their job. The last of these processes being quality control and packing. All the measurements and seams are checked; experienced eyes look for possible problems and make sure everything is exactly as it should be. To finish, a handwritten label is attached describing the design number, colour symbol and size of the garment. Then the Oleana jackets are ready and can proudly be sent out to the world.

Silk is one of the strongest natural fibres. It absorbs moisture well which makes it ideal to wear in warm weather and while being active. In cold weather it keeps warm air close to the skin, thus keeping you warm. The specific silk we use is for our silk skirts are called thrown silk. This is the longest fibre, direct from the cocoon. It has a great natural lustre and is very strong compared to its weight. The fabric is woven at a small, but very skilled factory in Thailand. The base weave is a ”stramei” binding, while the motif has different satin-bindings.
